Women that inspire me: Grace Coddington

Grace Coddington is the creative director of American Vogue Magazine. Growing up in a small seaside town in Europe, Grace’s love of fashion started when she began ordering magazines that would be close to the teen vogue of our time. She grew to love models like Twiggy (a popular model of the time) and decided to move to London to further her career as a model. Grace modeled successfully for a few years, ending her career when she was in a serious car accident. Grace then began a job at British Vogue, where she was a stylist/shopper for the magazine. Slowly Grace worked up her rank at the magazine, eventually moving to the position of creative director, working side by side with editor in chief: Anna Wintour. Over time Grace and Anna developed a working bond and respect with each other, which later carried over to a carrier for both of them in the same positions at American Vogue. To this day Anna and Grace maintain their positions at American Vogue in New York City, New York. After reading Grace’s memoir, I fell in love with Grace’s combative personality as well as her drive to stand up for what is important to her. In her memoir “Grace”, Grace speaks about everything from the fashion industry’s goods and bads to her own personal opinion of the world being digitalized. I have fell in love with Grace’s down to earth, working woman persona and have watched/read various articles and documentaries about the incredible life story of Grace Coddington. Each day I respect the effort, hard work and dedication Grace has put into the fashion industry for over 40 years, and I can only work to achieve such high respect that Grace receives. Grace Coddington is and will always be an immense inspiration to me, and I can only be thankful that I was introduced by my local library to such a world respected figure in the industry I love.
