In the summer of 2013, I checked out around 60 books about the fashion industry. One of the many books was Influence by Mary Kate and Ashely Olsen, who I had heard of, but did not understand their significant place in the fashion industry. As I began to read the autobiography type high fashion book, I slowly fell in love with the two child stars and began to realize what an incredible place the two fashion designers, models, actresses and business women had in the fashion industry. Not only have I grown to love their style, but I love how they both have such diverse individuality and in the book the reader can grow to see how different the identical twin sisters really are. The book is filled with interviews from the twins’ fashion icons, admirers as well as photoshoots, polaroids and surveys that showcase the two sister’s personalities.
During this time in 2013, I struggled in deciding what I wanted to do with my life. I had always loved fashion and design, but this book and many others really showed me that the fashion industry was much more than just creating beautiful designs that people could wear. To me, the fashion industry is one large family, where even rivaling brands truly do want the best for each other, and the industry.
Happy Birthday Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen! Thank you for helping me rediscover my greatest love.
